Assessment and surgical opinion for nerve injuries causing weakness or wasting of the arm, with nerve testing done in-house.
The brachial plexus is the bundle of nerves running from the neck into the shoulder and arm. A hard fall, a motorcycle accident, or a stretch injury at birth can tear or stretch these nerves, leaving the arm weak, numb, or hanging useless.
Two things matter enormously here, and both are commonly missed. The first is that nerves recover slowly and partially, so improvement in the early weeks does not always mean full recovery is coming. The second is that timing is critical: where surgery is needed, results are far better when it is done within months rather than after a year has passed. Waiting to see is reasonable for a while, but waiting indefinitely quietly closes the door.
Dr. Rana trained in brachial plexus surgery and lists it among his areas of expertise.
Nerve injuries are graded by whether the nerve is bruised, stretched, or torn, and that distinction drives everything. A bruised nerve usually recovers on its own. A torn one will not, and no amount of physiotherapy changes that.
Electrical testing is how this is judged. NeuroMet Wellness performs NCV and EMG at our Gurgaon centre, reported by Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, so the assessment and the surgical opinion can happen together rather than across three different places.
Where the nerve is recovering, the work is physiotherapy, splinting and protecting the limb while it does. Where it is not, reconstruction may be possible: repairing the nerve, grafting across the gap, or transferring a working nerve to do the job of a damaged one.
The aim is realistic rather than total. Restoring elbow bend, or shoulder stability, or grip, transforms what a person can do day to day, even when the arm does not return entirely to normal.
Please note: NeuroMet Wellness is an outpatient clinic. Consultation, review of your scans, and second opinions happen here; if a surgery is advised, it is carried out by Dr. Rana at his hospital, Paras Health, Gurugram.
Early. Where surgery is needed, results are considerably better within the first few months. Waiting a year before seeking an opinion can close off options that were available earlier.
Yes, both are performed and reported at our Gurgaon centre, which means the testing and the surgical opinion can be arranged together.
Sometimes, where the nerve is bruised rather than torn. Where reconstruction is needed the aim is to restore useful function such as elbow bend or grip, which changes daily life even if the arm is not fully normal.
It is essential for keeping joints supple and muscles alive while a nerve recovers, but it cannot repair a torn nerve. Electrical testing is what distinguishes the two situations.
Assessment and nerve testing happen at NeuroMet Wellness. If reconstruction is advised, it is carried out by Dr. Rana at his hospital, Paras Health, Gurugram.
