Electromyography (EMG) Study
Electromyography (EMG) assesses the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them (motor neurons). It involves inserting a very thin needle electrode into specific muscles to record electrical activity. Your EMG is performed and interpreted under the supervision of Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, Consultant Neurologist (MBBS, MD, DM Neurology), with 16+ years of experience — so you get a specialist's reading, not just a printout.
An EMG evaluates the muscle and the motor nerve supply that drives it. It is commonly used to assess:
At NeuroMet every EMG is performed or reviewed by a consultant neurologist and interpreted against your symptoms and examination. Read patient education articles.

Amit conducts all EEG, NCV, and EMG studies at NeuroMet Wellness using standardized neurophysiology protocols. His focus is precise data acquisition and patient comfort — so you're in calm, experienced hands throughout the procedure. All results are supervised and interpreted by Dr. Bhupesh Kumar.
Meet the full team →An EMG is frequently done alongside a nerve conduction study (NCV) in the same visit. The NCV studies how the nerve carries its signal, while the EMG studies the muscle and its nerve supply. Read together, they tell your neurologist whether the problem is in the nerve, the muscle, or the connection between them.
A fine needle electrode is placed into the muscle, so you may feel a small pinprick and mild ache during the recording. The discomfort is brief, and most patients tolerate it well without anaesthesia.
Most studies take about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how many muscles need to be examined.
Sometimes, but never stop any medicine on your own. Tell us what you take and the neurologist will advise whether a temporary adjustment is needed.
The cost depends on how many muscles and nerves need to be studied, which the neurologist decides from your symptoms. Please call or WhatsApp our team for an exact quote.
Minor soreness or a small bruise at the needle sites can occur and usually settles on its own within a day or two. Serious complications are rare.
Usually the same day, with the neurologist's interpretation in the context of your symptoms.
All neurophysiology tests at NeuroMet Wellness are supervised or reviewed by our Senior Consultant Neurologist to ensure clinical correlation with your symptoms. We don't just give you a graph; we give you a diagnosis.
